Siang (Sunny) Zhou has been a faculty member at School of Civil and Transportation Engineering at Guangdong University of Technology since 2025; she was with the Department of Civil Engineering at College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley prior to that (2023-2025), after completing her Ph.D. degree at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Zhou has research interests in improving design efficiency and structural resilience of infrastructure. She is excited about performance testing of structural systems under various load conditions, health monitoring of existing structures, and multi-disciplinary research that makes impacts on achieving safer and more economical infrastructure design, retrofit, and construction.
Dr. Zhou teaches Structural Steel Design (钢结构设计原理, 2025年秋) and Smart Structural Monitoring (工程结构智能检测, 2025年秋) at Guangdong University of Technology. She taught Structural Steel Design (CIVE 3341, Fall 2023 through Spring 2025) and mechanics of material (CIVE 3321, Spring 2024 through Spring 2025) at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
